gold filled, explained
a closer look...
and some more info about our one-of-a-kind pieces... So, what is gold filled exactly? This is, unfortunately, a question we keep hearing. A. LOT. We really want to change that. It is such great material to work with, to wear, to have, to show off!
Gold filled is an actual layer of gold-pressure bonded to another metal. Gold filled is not to be confused with gold plating. Gold filled is much more valuable and tarnish resistant. It does not flake off, rub off or turn colors. As a matter of fact, anyone who can wear gold can wear gold filled without worries of any allergic reaction to the jewelry. Gold filled jewelry is a real alternative to solid gold but at a much nicer pricepoint.
Gold filled jewelry are lifetime pieces, and the gold layer will not wear off, as it will in electroplated products. Gold filled jewelry is often called the wave of the future because it offers all the same characteristics as solid gold such as strength, durability and beauty. It is also legally required to contain at least 1/20 gold by weight. It is a completely different manufacturing process than making gold plated pieces. With a totally different result.
There is, of course, nothing wrong with gold plated jewelry. Don't get us wrong! We own it too! But this is just a different level, this will last you a lifetime, you get to keep and wear it without any trouble! Just remember, even solid gold has to be taken care of properly. And caring for gold filled items is as easy as caring for any gold jewelry. Simply keep away from chemicals, clean regularly with a little bit of warm water and use a soft cloth to dry and shine after. That's it, enjoy!
